Important update on Transition to MCS’ redeveloped installer Scheme and APHC UKAS Suspension

As members will be aware, MCS launched its redeveloped installer Scheme earlier this year, with certified installers in the process of moving over.

MCS has now issued guidance that all currently certified installers wishing to transition to the redeveloped installer Scheme should submit their application to their chosen MCS certification body before 18th December to ensure that they can meet the transition deadline, after which the current Scheme will close.

The 18th December deadline reminds installers that you need to consider the time it will take to go through the full transition process, including site assessments and MCS’ checks.

If installers have not fully transitioned to the redeveloped installer Scheme by 31 March 2027, your certification will be withdrawn, meaning you will not be able to operate as MCS certified, carry out work under Government grants or incentives, or meet the expectations of previously acquired customers or commercial contracts.

APHC’s Accreditation is currently still suspended by UKAS. We are working with UKAS to resolve our accreditation as quickly as possible, but we can’t currently provide a definitive date when this will happen. As a result, we cannot offer the redeveloped installer Scheme to our existing members at this time.

Therefore, you may wish to consider starting the transition process with an alternative MCS certification body if you do not want to risk missing the 31 March 2027 deadline and disrupting your MCS certification. APHC installers would also need to factor in the additional time needed to move to another MCS certification body and make sure you are prepared to meet the redeveloped Scheme requirements.

Each installers scenario will be different, and it is important to understand your own individual requirements as they may differ to other members. The APHC team are here to answer any questions you may have: 0121 711 5030.

On 28th May 2026 APHC’s UKAS accreditation was suspended. We would like to assure everyone that relies upon APHC’s certification that we are working to address the reasons for this suspension as soon as possible and regain our accreditation. Please be aware of the following:

  • Whilst under suspension APHC are unable to onboard new contractors or undertake surveillance visits.
  • Installers that are due site visits whilst we are under the suspension will have these deferred. Installers that have imminent certification deadlines are being offered a transfer to an alternative certification body in order to avoid any delay to their certification status.

However:

  • The competence of registered installers and the validity of certifications issued prior to 28th May 2026 are not at risk.
  • We are continuing to support our members as normal. If you are currently certificated, you can continue to notify work as usual as this does not affect you.
  • Whilst everyone affected has been contacted by a member of our certification team to discuss their individual circumstances, if you have any queries please contact us.

APHC are working closely with UKAS to provide any additional information needed and are in continuous engagement with, the Building Safety Regulator (BSR), the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG), MCS Certified and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ). Once our accreditation is reinstated, we will be working hard to prioritise assessments for those installers impacted most by the suspension.
