World Water Day is held annually on 22 March as a means of focusing attention on the global water crisis – this year’s theme is valuing water. The value of water is about much more than its price – water has enormous and complex value for our households, food, culture, health, education, economics and the integrity of our natural environment.
By now we all know that reducing carbon emissions is critical to keeping our global temperature increase below 1.5 degrees Celsius. More and more people and businesses are taking action, committing to reduced carbon or zero carbon goals.
But water footprint reduction will increasingly need to be tackled as an objective on its own.
According to UN-Water, the global water demand is expected to increase by more than 50% by 2040, primarily from manufacturing, electricity generation and households. Including a water management strategy as part of your business’s overall sustainability strategy can help protect from climate risks related to water, ensure that water will be there for your business needs, help reduce your carbon footprint, and ensure a safe supply for your area.
Over the next few years, we’re expecting to see a time of unprecedented and significant change for the plumbing and heating industry with the introduction of more exacting standards relating to controlling water consumption in new build properties leading the way to potentially tighter controls on water consumption in existing buildings. So, it’s never been more important to be part of an employers’ trade association.
As the Association of Plumbing & Heating Contractors is led by a board of directors fully comprised of industry practitioners from its member businesses, the organisation is fully focussed on feeding installer views into the Government and helping to shape policy, and in turn keeping members updated on the latest developments as they happen.
It’s now more important than ever to engage with new developments and keep abreast of industry changes in order for your business to thrive. So if your plumbing and heating business is interested in joining APHC then please get in touch on 0121 711 5030, or email membershipsales@aphc.co.uk for further information.
